Frederick Arends (Dutch, born 1949)
After graduation at the Fine Arts Academy, Frederick Arends steadily developed his outstanding gift for detailed painting. He became fascinated with 19th Century Dutch Masters. Depicting expansive horizons, magnificent skies, a sunset, sometimes showing the blue transparency of ice, he visualizes the typical Dutch character in landscape. He strikingly paints the atmosphere of the past in a unique and masterful technique. Arends calls himself a modern painter applying traditional methods. Indeed, in his minute finished paintings we recognize the brushstroke of a very talented artist. Beside his summer and winter views, he also produces townscapes and seascapes. Very special are his romantic farmhouse poultry scenes. The work of this romantic ‘painter of light’ is exclusively displayed in the ‘De Schildercamer’ in Amsterdam.
