Biography:

Franz Hienl-Merre was a pupil of Carl Weinhold in Munich, Germany. He was born in the city of Mainz at the river Main, but went to Munich to study art.

 

He was especially known for his realistic landscape views and animal paintings which, are still highly appraised nowadays.

 

Hienl-Merre made numerous study trips to Italy and North France. He was a member of the "Reichsverband bildenden Kuenstler Deutschlands" and of the "Luitpold Gruppe" in Munich.

 

One can easily recognize a Hienl-Merre because of the combination of realism and the free strokes he uses in the area around the main subject(s).

 

Franz Hienl-Merre died in Munich in 1943 leaving behind an impressive oeuvre of landscapes and animal related paintings.
