The German artist Carl Hilgers was specialized in painting
Apart from a four-year stay in Berlin, Hilgers lived his entire life in his home town of Düsseldorf. He also attended an art academy here.
He made numerous study trips: in Germany, Belgium, France and also the Netherlands.
Hilgers mainly painted winter landscapes with rich upholstery, reminiscent of the ice and snow views of Dutch Romanticism.
He had great success with these paintings at the annual
exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Dresden. In particular the
surefire imagination, the fidelity of nature and the harmonious
color were appreciated.
