The painter was born in Rumbeck (Weser).
He was a painter and illustrator, also of children books.
Süs studied at the ‘Kasseler Kunstacademie’. Later on at the ‘Städelschen Institut’ in Frankfurt am Main with the professors Johann David Passavant and Jacob Becker.
To earn some money he wrote fairy tales which he illustrated himself.
People liked these very much and the fairy tales were translated in English and French.
From 1848 till 1850 he painted portraits in Germany.
From 1850 he lived in Düsseldorf and studied till 1851 at the Art Academy in this place.
Here he had his own studio where he made several paintings, mostly
