Herman ten Hoven was born in The Hague as the son of the landscape painter Frans ten Hoven.
In 1914 he moved to Amsterdam where he would stay for the rest of his life.
He studied at ‘The Royal Academy’ and was already during his life a very successful painter.
Also he was member of the well know art society ‘Arti et Amicitiae’.
Ten Hoven focused most of his efforts on executing oil paintings depicting the Dutch city-scenes. He succeeded in expressing the wonderful light that gives his works a realistic yet special atmosphere.
