The painter Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler, was born on 17 October 1837 in Amsterdam and died also in Amsterdam on 7 December 1923.
He lived and worked most of his life in his birthplace. He was a pupil and son of the well known and much appreciated J.J. Spohler (1811 - 1866).
Spohler Sr. often painted summer and winter landscapes, especially
winter scenes with many figures. The young Spohler worked in the same way, he painted corresponding subjects. He showed himself to be a very good student.
Spohler exhibited his work regularly, including at the Exhibitions of Living
Masters. Exhibitions of his work were held in Groningen and Rotterdam.
J.J.C. Spohler often signed his later work with the name J. Corver
Several museums in our country possess work by J.J.C. Spohler, including the Haags Gemeentemuseum.
