Born in The Hague on March 4, 1831.
Student of his brother H.F.C. ten Kate, Academy in The Hague. At the age of 19 he went to Amsterdam and in 1852 he became a member of the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. Mari made several study trips to France, England, Italy and the Dutch part of the East Indies.
He painted interiors and exteriors with figures, mostly children and hunting scenes.
On March 26, 1910 he died in Driebergen.
Work of this artist is part of the collection in several museums in: Amsterdam, Delft, Haarlem and Otterlo.
