Lindy de Jong was born in 1962 in de Achterhoek in the East of Holland. Her mother was a theater costume designer and her father was a musician and music teacher.
After her secundairy school De Jong studied at the AKI in Enschede. If possible she travelled to Berlin and Vienna to see the works of her favourite artistic art movement Die Blaue Reiter, also her main source of inspiration.
In 1989 she was asked to create a collection for a big Swiss hotelgroup. The assigment however made her face a problem with the reflection of the large quantity of daylight in the hotel lobbies. For this reason she started to experiment with coloured sand, which because of its rough structure is ‘the perfect reflection absorder’.
Nowadays De Jong lives both in Germany and in Holland. After a lawsuit against her former agent in Berlin she was forced to work in Germany under a pseudonym.
